I love to read. I've studied literature in college, but you don't have to reserve your books for academic purposes or romantic novels. Cookbooks and other texts related to food are a wonderful way to educate yourself about fine-tuning your craft; plus, they offer interesting and fun snippets of information! I am not affiliated with any of these books of their authors, but with that being said here are some of my favorite books about food, life, and everything in between:
Julie & Julia by Julie Powell This book is the heartwarming tale of a woman in a slump; she feels bit like a nobody and doesn't see how she can progress in her personal life or career. That's when she meets Julia Child -- or, rather, Julia Child's recipes. She comes up with a hare-brained idea: document her adventures making all of Julia Child's french cuisine recipes in a year. Along the way, Julie not only learns how to cook but learns how to savor life. Whether you enjoy cooking or not, this is an endearing tale of self-discovery. *Image from wtamu.edu Cuisines of India by Smita and Sanjeev Chandra One wonderful thing about food is that is can give us a window into another culture and how people in other parts of the world live. Indian food is both feared and loved for its notorious bold flavors that set your tastebuds ablaze. Cuisines of India is different than traditional cookbooks because it has detailed narratives about Indian culture and the traditions of Indian cuisine. *Image from starchefs.com |
